An adrenaline-filled community for all

Winter is just around the corner. We wrap ourselves up in warm winter jackets and big boots or hide inside to shelter from the cold. But not everyone stays inside when they feel the harsh winter winds. At Kitekollektivet , instead, they head out to the water, jump in their wetsuits and let the wind carry them away on their kiteboards.

Kitesurfing all year round

Kitekollektivet Currently has over 100 members who, through an internal Facebook group, organize weekly kitesurfing sessions throughout Zealand. Kitekollektivet is a community for kitesurfers who are passionate about the sport and want the opportunity to practice it with others.

It’s precisely this sense of community that many members love about the collective. “The best thing about Kitekollektivet is definitely meeting new people and being able to share your interest with others who love it just as much as you do. It’s so much fun when we go out together,” says Liv Andersen, a new member of the collective.

All year round
Many people might also think that water sports are only for the summer months. But Kitekollektivet is helping to dispel that myth. According to the founders of Kitekollektivet, Alexander Wazi and Nicolaj Westergaared, kitesurfing takes on an extra dimension in the winter:“Kitesurfing is awesome all year round! In the summer, the sun and warmth are great, but winter is awesome because the harsh weather really shakes you up, and it just adds an extra thrill to the sport.”

A community for everyone
Kitekollektivet is for everyone! That’s the view of all the members, with member Kasper Nyholm particularly highlighting the inclusivity of the collective:“There’s genuine joy, enthusiasm, and a spirit of entrepreneurship surrounding the sport. Kitekollektivet is for everyone—it’s not an elitist, exclusive project. Through the collective, you get the social aspect and the chance to talk about technique, equipment, and progress, regardless of your skill level.”

Alexander and Nicolaj also believe that the very opportunity to never have to surf alone is something you should actively take advantage of. It can be unsafe to go out on the water alone. In the summer, you quickly meet other kitesurfers at the various spots in Denmark, but in the winter, it’s important to have a community with whom you can organize sessions. Here, the collective helps ensure that you always have someone to kitesurf with.

Winter also brings harsher wind conditions, which are more challenging than the gentler summer days. Once again, Kitekollektivet is a great community to be part of, as members are always ready to help and support one another “It’s nice to know, when you’re heading out on your own, that if there’s even a small thing you’re unsure about—for example, regarding equipment or advice—they (the members) will always be welcoming and ready to help,” says member Anja Brendorp. To ensure that Kitekollektivet members can always spot one another, members often wear a Kitekollektivet T-shirt, which is included with membership. This makes members easy to spot, and you never feel alone.

Kitekollektivet is already a large community, but there’s always room for more people who are ready to bring positive energy, a sense of security, and good cheer to the collective.
