Kitesurfing Amager

Amager is one of Greater Copenhagen’s most popular kitesurfing spots, and here you’ll find some of Denmark’s best conditions for both beginners and experienced kitesurfers. The southwestern tip of Amager Strandpark is known for its shallow water, wide sandy beach, and steady wind conditions, making it the ideal spot to learn to kitesurf or practice new tricks.

At Kitekollektivet , we’re located just a few hundred meters from Sydvestpynten, and we regularly offer kitesurfing courses for both beginners and experienced riders. Whether you’re dreaming of your first time on the water or you can already stand on the board and want to move on to kitesurfing in waves, you can find a class that fits your skill level.

Amager also offers great amenities around the kitesurfing spot, including parking, changing rooms, and access to our surf center, where you can rent kitesurfing gear if you don’t have a kite, board, or wetsuit. The wind on Amager typically blows best from the west and southwest, which means there are often good kitesurfing conditions throughout the spring, summer, and fall.

If you're a beginner, we always recommend starting with a kitesurfing course so you can learn about safety, technique, and wind conditions before you try it on your own. Below, you'll find our latest articles about kitesurfing on Amager and the surrounding spots in Copenhagen.

Amager Strandpark stretches for several kilometers, and you’ll find great kitesurfing conditions in several spots along the coast, depending on the wind direction. The southwestern tip is especially popular among kitesurfers because the shallow water makes it safe to practice new tricks and land safely, while more experienced kitesurfers often head further south, where there may be a bit more swell. No matter where on Amager you’re kitesurfing, it’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the wind and weather forecast and to be mindful of other beachgoers.

Our kitesurfing courses on Amager are designed to guide you safely from your first time on the water to being able to kitesurf on your own. We offer ongoing classes throughout the spring, summer, and fall, and you can book either a full kitesurfing course or individual sessions if you just need to master specific skills. If you already have experience from somewhere else but would like to get to know the conditions on Amager, a refresher lesson with us is a great option.

Need gear for a trip to Amager? At Kitekollektivet , you can rent a kite, board, and wetsuit, and our instructors will be happy to help you find the right gear for your skill level and the current wind conditions.

If you’re new to kitesurfing, we always recommend starting with a proper kitesurfing course before heading out on your own in Amager. Among other things, you’ll learn how to read the wind and currents, how to set up your equipment correctly, and how to stay safe around swimmers and other kitesurfers on the beach.
